![]() The Devils held firm in wanting to get Bratt under Jack Hughes’ $8 million AAV, and they got it done. For the better part of a year, and right up to even two weeks ago, Bratt’s camp still was trying to get north of $8 million on an eight-year deal. Dating back to last summer, when both sides were far apart and punted the ball down the road a year with a one-year deal, I’m told this was an absolute grind of a negotiation. The process on the Bratt deal, meanwhile, was far from smooth. You never know how these negotiations can turn out, but the mutual feeling from the outset here is wanting to get an eight-year deal done. And just as importantly, Meier’s camp, led by agent Claude Lemieux, is also on board to try to get a long-term deal done. ![]() New Jersey’s clear intention is to get Meier also signed to an eight-year deal there’s zero interest in doing a one-year contract that would bridge him to unrestricted free agency next summer. The Devils decided to file for arbitration on Meier, but that’s just seen as procedural at this point. There have already been a couple of conversations between the sides.
